Evaluation of Workplace Climate Improvement Initiatives Completed in Tanzania Print

Since 2008, the Capacity Project has led a series of work climate improvement (WCI) initiatives in 22 health facilities in Ulanga District, Tanzania, designed to improve worker morale, productivity and retention.

WCI activities targeted three problem areas: unclear job expectations; the absence of basic infrastructure and supplies at facilities (e.g., benches, chairs, transportation for outreach services and adequate storage space for drugs); and weak HR management systems at district and facility levels.

Capacity Project staff recently undertook a comprehensive evaluation of the effectiveness of these activities. Quantitative analysis of the evaluation results is currently ongoing, and a final report is slated for completion in July.
