HRH Action Framework: Assessing Progress, Mapping the Road Ahead Print

The Capacity Project collaborated with WHO, the Global Health Workforce Alliance and other global partners to assess progress on applying the Human Resources for Health (HRH) Action Framework (HAF) at a workshop in Amsterdam from May 5-7.

The HAF was designed as a comprehensive approach to help governments and health managers achieve an effective and sustainable health workforce. Thirty-two experts from technical and HRH fields explored ways the HAF has been used, shared lessons learned, assessed ways that the HAF can make the greatest impact on the health workforce and expanded the network of HAF users.

The participants documented different approaches to HAF application and suggested a number of methods to help support its future in-country application. Since the group included representatives from a broad range of organizations, countries and regions, one important outcome is that the process of dissemination was clearly articulated—this will ultimately lead to increased sustainability.
