Capacity Project Supports Transition of HIV Services in Ethiopia Print

The Capacity Project participated in a consultative meeting organized by the Federal HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Office in Adama, Ethiopia from January 26-29, to transition prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) services from the federal HIV/AIDS Program to the Ministry of Health.

As members of the PMTCT technical working group, two Capacity Project staff presented two of the Project’s promising practices in Ethiopia: mothers’ support groups (MSG) at health centers; and antenatal care and PMTCT demand creation by health extension workers and community-based reproductive health agents.

These successful programs are part of the Project’s strategies to scale up access to health and psychosocial services and strengthen reach of PMTCT services to the community level. Also, organizers showed the MSG documentary, Rising Hope, and distributed copies to participants, PMTCT implementing partners and donor organizations.
