Mobile Physicians Increase Access to Antiretroviral Therapy Print

In Rwanda, the Capacity Project collaborated with district hospital physicians to develop a strategy to expand ART access.

Since the program’s inception (October 2005), mobile district physicians have screened 4,903 HIV-positive clients for ART eligibility, provided ART to 1,821 eligible clients and provided OI prophylaxis to 2,225 HIV-positive clients at 14 remote sites.

Screened clients ineligible for ART receive regular follow-up evaluation. Adherence to treatment and psychosocial support is provided at health centers and in monthly meetings for people living with HIV.
