Anne Wilson to Lead the Capacity Project Print E-mail

IntraHealth International has named Anne Wilson as the new director of the Capacity Project. Ms. Wilson brings 30 years of experience, technical expertise and leadership in global health to the Project, now in its third year as USAID’s flagship effort to strengthen human resources for health in sub-Saharan Africa and other regions.

Performance-Based Learning: Applying a New Approach at a Nursing School in Mali Print E-mail

Voices from the Capacity Project

In Mali’s remote and resource-poor northern zone, a nursing school is training health workers to serve the diverse population of this region. At the Ecole des Infirmiers de Gao (EIG), around 40 faculty members provide instruction for approximately 240 students.

Training Policy Development Underway in Kenya Print E-mail

In March, the Capacity Project assisted Kenya’s Ministry of Health in the initial steps to develop a national policy on training for health care workers. Project staff met with high-level stakeholders to identify concerns and challenges in advance of a stakeholders’ workshop to inform policy recommendations. The Project plans to help write and implement the policy and the related accreditation, data management and collection components.

HR Management Assessment Completed in Namibia Print E-mail

Faith-based organizations (FBOs) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) play a vital role in Namibia’s strategy to minimize the impact of HIV and AIDS. In February, a Capacity Project team conducted a comprehensive human resources management (HRM) assessment of two FBOs and one NGO using a tool developed by Project partner MSH.

Report Published on Africa Health Workforce Observatory Meeting Print E-mail

Responding to the health workforce crisis in Africa, 14 African countries and several international organizations have joined forces to form the Africa Health Workforce Observatory. The Capacity Project partnered with the East, Central and Southern Africa (ECSA) Health Community, the World Health Organization and the World Bank to accelerate the establishment of the Observatory and co-hosted its initial meeting in Arusha, Tanzania, in September 2006.
