Emergency Care Training Strengthens Nurses’ Skills in Rwanda Print E-mail

In February, the Capacity Project facilitated two workshops that provided emergency obstetric and neonatal care training for nurses from three districts in Rwanda.

The first session, held in Gakenke district, consisted of theoretical and practical training for 23 A2-level nurses. Twenty-one nurses attained a competency score of 85% or better on a post-test administered after the training. In the second session, 23 A2 nurses and one A1 nurse from Huye and Gisagara districts were trained, and all 24 achieved 85% or better on the post-test.

At the end of the sessions, the nurses formulated three-month workplans to detail their action steps for gaining practical experience in their health facilities to further their knowledge base. Capacity Project staff will monitor their progress and conduct follow-up activities. The workshops and follow-up activities are part of the Project’s efforts to strengthen maternal and child health care in Rwanda.
