Strategy to Strengthen HR Information Systems in Tanzania Expanded |

The Capacity Project broadened its strategy for strengthening Tanzania’s human resources information systems (HRIS) to include both central and district-level offices.
To develop a complete picture of health workforce data available in the country, the Project conducted meetings in January with key stakeholders from the ministries of health and social welfare in mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar, the Prime Minister’s Office for Regional and Local Government as well as with other donors involved in HRIS strengthening.
The Project then presented USAID/Tanzania with a breakdown of information systems that exist or are needed in both public and private sectors and at the central and district levels, and recommended focusing on strengthening the HRIS at the district level—where most gaps are—starting with the Office for Local Government. The mission endorsed this strategy, which aligns with the country’s human resources for health strategic plan.
