The Capacity Project’s strategic approach to strengthening human resources for health (HRH) in faith-based organizations (FBOs) is harmonizing efforts across FBO health facilities in Kenya.
The Project’s Doris Mwarey has been working with the Christian Health Association of Kenya (CHAK) and the Kenya Episcopal Conference (KEC) since February. Mwarey collected data on the HR management capacity of staff at 64 FBO sites, then used the data to help organize technical working groups from CHAK and KEC for the development of an HR policy manual. Mwarey contributed to the manual as well as an HIV/AIDS workplace policy manual for facilities managed by CHAK and KEC. Both manuals are currently being launched.
Mwarey also helped to train approximately 100 FBO staff on the new Kenya labor laws, HR management and the HRH strategic plan; developed a consultancy database to ensure access to local HR management services; and assisted in the recruitment process for key FBO positions.
