Workplace HIV/AIDS Prevention Program Initiated in Kenya |

In June and July, the Capacity Project worked with Lamu, Nyando, Lugari, Kaloleni and Kaimosi District Hospitals in Kenya to plan and implement a worker wellness and safety program.
These facilities are located in regions with high HIV prevalence, and health workers are at risk for infection. A local consultant worked with facility teams to develop simple facility-based infection control protocols and to ensure the availability of post-exposure prophylactics for all staff.
In Kenya there is no official policy on HIV prevention and treatment for health workers. As such, focusing on prevention, education and treatment for workers on the frontline is an important contribution. Each facility formed a Worker Wellness Support team to ensure that planned activities are implemented and sustained.
