The Capacity Project’s Barbara Stilwell and Dykki Settle published an article in the September 10-16 issue of Nursing Standard, a British nursing journal.

Titled “Capacity for Progress,” the article gives examples of how the Capacity Project has used information technology (IT) in Africa and discusses how the resulting systems are being (or will be) used to support planning and management of the health workforce.

The authors explore the potential for supporting health workers in isolated areas to better use knowledge, refer patients and consult on complicated issues, with examples of what is currently being done in this field. Lessons are drawn from the principles of improving complex systems of care and applied to future IT development, using the Project’s experience for examples.
