The Capacity Project recently released Version 1.0 of iHRIS Plan, free Open Source health workforce planning and modeling software.

This initial version is a prototype stemming from the results of the Workforce Planning Model Workshop held in December 2007 in collaboration with WHO and World Bank. Based on a simplified version of the WHO HRH Workforce Projection Model, it will enable workforce planners and decision-makers to assess their health workforce needs for the next several years, project the actual health workforce over the same time and make effective policy decisions to close the gap between the two.

iHRIS Plan is currently being pilot-tested in Namibia and reviewed by key workforce planning experts; feedback will be incorporated into subsequent versions of the software. A demonstration is posted on the Project’s website and the software is available for download.
