Study Continues Capacity Project Retention Research in Uganda Print E-mail

In collaboration with the Uganda Ministry of Health, the Capacity Project has completed data collection in 18 selected districts (Kampala, Kayunga, Iganga, Mbale, Katakwi, Manafwa, Bududa, Kitgum, Masindi, Buliisa, Arua, Moyo, Sembabule, Mbarara, Isingiro, Ibanda, Kiruhura and Kabale) within the four major geographical regions for a Uganda Health Workforce Turnover Study.

The study is a follow-up to the findings of the Project’s retention study conducted in 2006-2007, which showed that majority of health workers—and in particular doctors and young and/or single health workers—would be willing to leave their present work stations in the next two years.

The new study will provide information on health worker turnover and attrition rates by cadre over a five-year period. This information will guide the Ministry of Health in planning and development of human resources for health. Findings are expected in Fall 2008.
