From May 12-17, the Capacity Project held a training workshop at the Ecole des Infirmiers de Gao for teachers and directors of the nursing school to orient them to new training materials developed using the Project’s Learning for Performance methodology and tools.
Faculty members prepared and co-taught mini-lessons for their colleagues, using clinical case studies, demonstrations and role playing. Feedback allowed each team to identify strengths and areas for improvement. Participants improved their family planning/reproductive health skills and knowledge scores from 66% on a pre-test to 89% on a post-test.
In the closing ceremony, participants thanked their technical and financial partners—USAID and the Capacity Project—and urged them to continue their efforts to strengthen human resources so that Mali’s northern regions will have access to qualified health workers.
