May 17 marked the opening of the new Resource Center at the Juba Teaching Hospital in Southern Sudan.
A major component of the Capacity Project’s work in Southern Sudan, the Resource Center includes a small library of modern medical textbooks and other printed aids paired with electronic resources accessible by seven computers on a dedicated satellite Internet connection. After the opening ceremony, members of the hospital community toured the Resource Center, examined the books and computers and spoke with Capacity Project staff on hand for the event. According to Undersecretary of Health Dr. Monywiir Arop Kuol, the center “ushers in a new era, an era of Southern Sudan becoming part of the world. The significance of this is actually giving us the ability to acquire information, and of course someone who has given you information has really given you power.â€
The Project plans to enhance the center with low-connectivity electronic resources, such as the e-Granary system, and additional printed instruction materials.
