Capacity Project Collaborates on Regional Family Planning Training |

In April, the Capacity Project and Africa’s Health in 2010 collaborated with facilitators from the Tanzania Ministry of Health and the East, Central and Southern Africa Health Community to conduct a five-day regional training on contemporary issues in family planning.
Twenty-two nurse midwife tutors from public and private nursing schools in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda participated in the session, which was funded with support from the USAID Africa Bureau. The training served to update the family planning knowledge of the participating tutors, model optimal training methods and provide the tutors with reference documents, training materials and other resources for use in their courses.
The Capacity Project prepared curricula for the session using existing tested materials produced by other organizations. Participants completed action plans to incorporate the technical information and training methods into their teaching and prepared quality improvement plans for the clinical practice sites used by their students. The Project will follow up with participants in coming months to assess the adaptation of the teaching approach and content.
