From March 2-7, the Capacity Project participated in the first Global Forum on Human Resources for Health (HRH) in Kampala, Uganda.
Organized by the Global Health Workforce Alliance, the high-profile event drew 1,500 attendees—ministers of health, education and finance; donors; HRH experts; and regional and district-level health professionals from around the world. Capacity Project staff contributed to conference sessions and skill-building workshops on HR management, retention, recruitment and deployment, HR information systems, change management and country-level application of the HRH Action Framework.
At the conclusion, attendees endorsed the Kampala Declaration and Agenda for Global Action, a formal document recognizing the importance of the health workforce and issuing a call for action and cooperation among governments, institutions, civil society, the private sector, professional associations and unions in a global effort to bolster and improve the health workforce and health care delivery.
