In November, the Capacity Project’s Dr. Peter Johnson announced the launch of the Global Alliance for Pre-Service Education (GAPS), an online Community of Practice supported by the Project in collaboration with the World Health Organization and the IBP Consortium.
This global initiative is aimed at strengthening pre-service education in family planning and reproductive health (FP/RH). The GAPS website (http://my.ibpinitiative.org/gap) was introduced at a meeting of the IBP Consortium in Baltimore and enthusiastically received, with many members expressing a strong interest in joining this new community. Following the meeting, team members worked with a senior member of the IBP Secretariat at WHO on a strategy for developing a robust community of participants, which would include educators who are preparing students to deliver FP/RH services.
The site is moderated, contains educational and clinical resources and serves as a forum for guided community discussions. Those interested in joining can e-mail
