HR Management Assessment Completed in Namibia Print E-mail

Faith-based organizations (FBOs) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) play a vital role in Namibia’s strategy to minimize the impact of HIV and AIDS. In February, a Capacity Project team conducted a comprehensive human resources management (HRM) assessment of two FBOs and one NGO using a tool developed by Project partner MSH.

The Project is providing clinical technical assistance and funding to these organizations’ HIV/AIDS programs through sub-grants. However, strengthening the operations of the broader hospital systems is essential to ensure that the organizations and their programs remain strong and self-sustaining. In March, the team completed a report for each organization, identifying areas where the Project could help strengthen HRM practices and capabilities. Recommendations include establishing new employee orientation programs, implementing exit interviews, updating job descriptions and employee manuals and providing training in supportive supervision, management and leadership. These measures could improve the HIV/AIDS programs by ensuring that health workers are oriented to the national HIV guidelines, mobilized in sufficient numbers and supported in their day-to-day work.
