Project Completes Assessment of Tanzania’s Orphans and Vulnerable Children |

The Capacity Project completed a human resources assessment of the national program for orphans and vulnerable children in Tanzania. The resulting report provides recommendations to the Tanzania Ministry of Health and Social Welfare on building public sector human resources to implement the country’s National Plan of Action (NPA) for these children.
Part of the Project’s assistance to the USAID/Africa Bureau, this report is the first assessment of its kind for NPAs and builds upon Tanzania’s available resources to train and support “most vulnerable children committees†at the village level through district and central level leadership, coordination and management. The Project also created and submitted a one-page advocacy paper to develop awareness and support for the initiative across ministries and donors.
In light of the successful lessons learned in Tanzania, the Project is now developing a standardized method and set of tools that will be applicable in other countries to assess public sector human resources needs to implement NPAs. The Project will test the method and tools in Namibia in March 2007.
